Coach LaVoie Leaving for Colorado

April 27, 2007 – Coach LaVoie Submits his Official Resignation

From Coach LaVoie:

Dear Wrestlers, Managers, Parents, and the Beach Wrestling Community:

Much to my chagrin, I have submitted my resignation as the Varsity Wrestling Coach at Green Run High School.I’ve spent fourteen years at “The Run” as a wrestler, volunteer, and ultimately coach. I will miss the Green Run Wrestling family more than most could imagine. At heart, I am a loyalist. I stayed with the team through the good and the bad. We had some rough rebuilding years! I got to see the team win its fair share of trophies, and was witness to the first tournament placing athletes the Stallions have seen in a long time. I learned a lot from my athletes and fellow coaches. Bill Turner and Doc Laumann were invaluable in my development as a coach. I am very proud of the work I did with the team this year and the accolades that coincided. I am proud of this year’s squad, many of whom saw the mat for the first time this year, yet through determination and perserverence they were able to accomplish much.

When I started working at Green Run, to say I was naïve in the professions of teaching and coaching would be the understatement of the year. I matured as a young man and a professional in my years here, and I find that I am eager to take the lessons learned, the good and the bad, and start over somewhere else. I did some serious soul searching and a lot of research, and I have decided to move to Colorado to pursue a new life while I am still single and childless. No anchors! I am going to go climb a few mountains….both the real and the metaphoric in an endeavor to better myself as a person. I love wrestling, and if it was the do-all, end-all of life, I’d stay. However, an opportunity has come my way, and I need a change.
To my athletes and friends, please in no way take my actions as a betrayal or cop out. If I was to stay in the Beach, I’d stay at Green Run. I’ll be following the team's progress and hoping for the best. With the blessings of my department head, our principal, and our athletic director, I applied, interviewed, and secured the positions of English teacher and varsity wrestling coach at an amazing institution in a very nice area of Colorado. I should be moving this summer in June or July.

I will do my best to ensure that you are in good hands. Best of luck to each of you. If there is anything that I can do, or any questions that I can answer, please write, call, or come see me.

Coach Frank S. LaVoie
